If you liked the movie Sound of Metal, then this family melodrama is for you.
The film follows a deaf mother struggling to cope with the hardships of parenting. However, as the months pass and her child grows, the mother feels like she is losing the battle on all levels of her family and social life.
In fact, it is fascinating to see the kinds of adversities deaf parents face, and that is exactly what the film portrays up until its third act. However, once we reach the third act—when the mother’s world collapses and she gives up on everything—we finally hear what she has been hearing throughout the entire film, which leaves a very powerful impression on the viewer.
Personally, I think the childbirth scene could have been presented much more effectively had they included the protagonist’s subjective perception of sound, but this was evidently left out due to the film’s concept and to avoid similarities with Sound of Metal.
