Samim tim, svaka epizoda u okviru zapleta serije sadrži motiv iz svog naslova.
U suštini, serija predstavlja spoj misterije, ezoterije, političkog trilera i horora, u kojem pratimo Frojda u njegovim tridesetim godinama, kako svoj talenat i znanje koristi da, u saradnji s policijom, reši misteriju serijskih ubistava.
I hesitated for a long time before watching this series, as I assumed the Austrians would portray their compatriot in a rather idealized and polished way. And I can say that I was both right and wrong — the Austrians depict Freud as a depraved man addicted to cocaine (which is true), confused and frightened, but on the other hand, under the pretext of the cocaine theme, they avoided delving deeper into his relationship with women and sexuality — or rather, his excessive preoccupation with sex. This is only hinted at in one line from his fiancée: “You overestimate the power of the genitals, Freud. At least the power of yours.” So, when it comes to the authorial approach to Freud, what we get here is an overestimation of the power of cocaine and an underestimation of the power of (his) genitals.
Aside from these criticisms, the series is of a high production standard. Each episode bears the title of one of the concepts or phenomena Freud studied: hysteria, trauma, somnambulism, totems and taboos, desire, regression, catharsis, suppression. Consequently, each episode incorporates the motif from its title into the plot.
Essentially, the series combines elements of mystery, esotericism, political thriller, and horror, following Freud in his thirties as he uses his talent and knowledge to help the police solve a series of murders.
